Privacy Policy
Effective 9 October 2026
- Your data stays on your device.
- Nothing is sent to the developer or to third parties.
- No accounts, no tracking, no advertising, no analytics.
Camera, sensors and permissions
- Camera — for the viewfinder: the live preview, framing lines, exposure and white-balance readings, color spot readings, and the frames you choose to save. Camera images are processed on your device; only frames you save are kept.
- LiDAR / depth (iPhones with LiDAR) — only when you tap “Measure distance”: a single depth reading of the center of the frame becomes the focus distance. Depth data is not stored.
- Location (while using the app) — to work out the sun’s position and the light times for a frame. The coordinates are saved with your frames on your device. Location is optional; the app works without it.
- Compass and motion sensors — to point the sun marker in the viewfinder. The compass heading is saved with your frames; motion data is not stored. These sensors need no permission.
- Photos (add only) — to save frames to your photo library when you take them. The app asks only for permission to add photos and cannot see your library. If you have already given the app full Photos access, it looks up its own “CineBrain Pro” album by name to add new frames to it; it does not read your photos. Frames saved by the app contain no location information.
Only on your device
The app keeps its data in a database on your iPhone:
- saved frames and their shooting details (lens, exposure, filters, focus distance, depth of field);
- project information you type in (project name, director, cinematographer, production, shoot dates, day, scene and shot numbers) and your notes;
- the location and compass heading of each frame;
- app settings such as units, meter calibration and compass correction.
The app does not sync this data to iCloud or to any server. Like any app’s data, it is included in your device backups (iCloud Backup or a computer) if you have backups turned on.
You can delete frames and projects in the archive at any time. Deleting the app removes all of its data from your device.
Only when you choose to
Frames go to your photo library and scout reports (PDF) go wherever you send them with the share sheet — for example Mail, Files or AirDrop. These are sent only by you, to the places you choose; the developer never receives a copy.
No data collection
CineBrain Pro contains no third-party code, analytics, advertising or tracking, and it makes no network connections. The developer does not collect any data about you or how you use the app.
Apple’s beta feedback
If you test a beta version through Apple’s TestFlight, Apple may collect crash reports, basic usage information (such as installs and sessions), device information, and any feedback and screenshots you choose to send, and share them with the developer. This is handled by Apple under its own terms and privacy policy; the developer uses it only to fix problems and improve the app.
Children and updates
The app is not directed at children and collects no personal data from anyone.
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
